The latter reason is one of many that show why it is so important to only join a secure wireless network. There are also more questionable purposes in packet sniffing, and because it intercepts raw data passing through the network, the information that may be collected in unsecured wireless networks is potentially revealing. This is especially true if you have a recurring problem where network performance suffers, as it can help identify the cause and narrow down the actions that need to be addressed by IT staff or the network administrator. There are many reasons and purposes for intercepting packet traces, but perhaps the most common are network troubleshooting purposes, either to identify a connection problem or to better understand a particular network problem. ![]() Why capture a packet trace and what are the benefits of sniffing packets? ![]() ![]() The Andermani Empire in Honor Harrington pretty much Space Prussia.Holstein also beat-boxes his own military brass and drum fanfare when marching. Every Kaiserreich cliché shows up during their screentime, from Pickelhauben to rivalry with the French and Germanic Efficiency, the latter being greatly spoofed with the characters constantly referring themselves to " The Manual of Instructions" (their only qualified pilot died in a flying exercise and they had to replace him despite their incompetence in that field). The German aviators team in Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (which story is set in 1910), composed of the heavyset and stern Colonel Manfred von Holstein ( Gert Fröbe) and his Yes-Man Captain Rumpelstoss (played by Karl Michael Vogler). And actually a subversion, as he lives in Transylvania and wears an Austro-Hungarian style uniform. Inspector Kemp in Young Frankenstein: Spiffy uniform with jackboots, monocle (over an eyepatch), thick full mustache/mutton chops, and accent so thick even his countrymen have trouble understanding him.Their goals throughout the series are to conquer the rest of Europe and place it under control, including the protagonists' home of Eylstadt. Izetta: The Last Witch: The Germanian Empire, while based on Nazi Germany technologically, is actually led by a Kaiser named Otto. But they're still the good guys, oddly enough. Playing up the "confusing which era they are in" part to the hilt, the manga instead seemingly turns the conflict into an allegory of WWII rather than WWI, up to redesigning the Empire's military to look like the Wehrmacht and turning the Empire into a Nazi Germany allegory. In Saga of Tanya the Evil, the Empire is presented as alternate history version of pre-World War I Germany, depicted as efficient, meriteocratic and fairly egalitarian, but surrounded by countries intimidated and paranoid due to the Empire's military might.Weissen in Gunka No Baltzar is very similar to Prussia, but the king takes on a more subordinate role compared to the military leadership. The Galactic Empire in Legend of the Galactic Heroes is basically Prussia IN SPACE!.The comic also points out that the Prussian state is descended from The Teutonic Knights. Word of God also once stated that Prussia's true nature is that of a "punctual and diligent soldier," but this is masked by his bad manners. But he sometimes kicks ass in fights and according to Word of God he is completely devoted to his mentor and one of his bosses, Friedrich II. Sometimes this is taken to Alternate History territory, where Imperial Germany wins World War I and survives beyond its 1918 disestablishment. Bonus points if there is some amount of confusion as to whether this is the Kaiserreich or the Those Wacky Nazis (especially if No Swastikas is in effect). Keeping in line with the late-19th century/ World War I era atmosphere, great big black eagles and Iron Crosses will most likely be everywhere (though state symbols such as those of Bavaria and Saxony, strangely enough, will be absent), while the Kaiserreich's military will usually consist of vaguely WWI-ish technology, especially ugly box-shaped tanks (which all have individual names), U-Boats, Gas Mask Mooks, and, of course, zeppelins. What isn't optional, on the other hand, is the Pickelhaube, the classic World War I-era German army helmet topped by a nasty-looking steel spike. But this hack did show me I can break up with my snooze button and keep up my love affair with sleep. Going forward, I can’t promise my snooze days are permanently behind me. While I didn’t magically become a morning person after trying the hack, I learned there was one main benefit of waking up the first or second time: more time in my day to get work done! But, the 90-minute alarm hack did keep me from hitting snooze every day but one (and it was a Saturday, so I won’t be too harsh on myself). My weeklong attempt to abstain from the snooze button definitely wasn’t enough to absolve me from my love of Zzzville. ![]() To stop the alarm you just need to click the Stop Alarm button. Goodbye drowsiness.Ĭould two alarms really help me break up with my (codependent) relationship with sleep? I decided to test it out for a week. You can set alarms at any time like seconds, minutes, and hours from now. The theory, explains Chris Winter, MD, medical director of the Sleep Medicine Center at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Virginia, is that the 90 minutes of sleep you get between snoozes is the full sleep cycle, allowing you to wake up after your REM state, instead of during. One is set for 90 minutes before you want to wake up and the other for when you actually want to wake up. Here’s the gist: Instead of spending a half to full hour of sleep hitting the snooze button again and again and dozing off into what researchers call “fragmented sleep” (which has consequences for your ability to function throughout the day), you set two alarms. So when I heard there might be a better way to wean myself from my morning liaison with sleep - with a 90-minute snooze hack - I was intrigued. Instead, I snooze (and snooze and snooze) until I get up late, forcing my morning routine into a scrambled circus of eye boogies, sponge baths, on-the-go coffee, and looming deadlines. Trouble is, while we always spend at least eight hours a night together without struggle, when morning comes I can’t pull myself away from my suitor (er, pillow), even when technically I’ve gotten enough sleep. There are unfortunately very few campaign missions that take advantage of the potential for epic naval warfare. The Chinese in particular have a great range of impressive-looking ships, from the war junk to the suicide bomber fire ship that explodes on contact with anything on the water. The one big hole in the game is the noticeable lack of sea battles. Each campaign can be played at one of three different difficulty levels, and Big Huge Games appears to have nailed the difficulty factor with a knife-edge precision. The best missions provide a variety of optional secondary objectives that, if completed, strengthen your numbers for the final assault. A Japanese mission required that we defend villagers from an enemy onslaught as they attempted to flee a castle siege. In one Chinese scenario, we had to use stealth to bring a small vulnerable party through a cave system by ducking into darkened passages to avoid regular enemy patrols. There are a total of 15 missions, and the designers have made every effort to make sure that you're not simply repeating the same cycle of gather, build and conquer. This, however, doesn't detract from some great campaign gameplay. The dialogue is fairly unsubtle such that you can usually see the plot twist coming like a herd of stampeding war elephants. Unfortunately, despite some spirited voice acting performances from some colorful characters, the stories tend to divide a little bit too neatly along the lines of good versus evil. While the events may be based in history, the characters involved are not, and this gives the writers license to turn up the drama dial with betrayals and deception galore. The final campaign deals with India's efforts to throw off the yoke of British colonial power. The Chinese campaign focuses on the hypothesis that a massive fleet of Chinese treasure junks sailed west to discover the Americas in 1421. The Japanese campaign follows the efforts of the shogun Tokugawa as he fights to unite Japan during the Warring States period.
